Information
The programme "An Instrument for Every Child" aims to fill school children with enthusiasm for music, from the first year to the fourth.
The initiative is dedicated to promoting cultural and musical education for our children, so as to encourage wider interest and enthusiasm for culture. By making music together, all students between the age of 6 to 10 years will learn to form their own impressions regarding aesthetics and develop their cultural skills.
“An Instrument for Every Child” was developed by the German Federal Culture Foundation, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Foundation for the Future of Education and was a cooperation project of the 2010 European Capital of Culture in the Ruhr Region. Following the four-year introduction phase from 2007 to summer 2011, the programme is going into permanent operation in the Ruhr starting from the school year 2011/12. It is now sponsored exclusively by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The charitable foundation "An Instrument for Every Child" is the sponsor of the programme. The example of the Ruhr region of Germany shows how aesthetic education, the most important resource for passing on our cultural heritage and strengthening the level of commitment to culture, can be systematically expanded upon on a large scale and fortified. The long-term goal is to improve the basic conditions for cultural education in Germany.
